ABOUT THE PROJECT
SLQ Unstacked is a real-time visualisation of resources people are accessing from the State Library's collection. When people view the record of an item from the collection, we simply visualise what they are looking it. The visualisation is true to the current time in the library so what you are seeing is happening right at this moment by users onsite and offsite.
It is essentially an exhibition of the collection curated by the people who are accessing it. The project reflects the pulse of the library as well as revealing the richness and diversity of the collection and the interests of its users. It aims to inspire further exploration.
Images and colours
Where there is an image available for an item, a preview is shown and generally displayed at a larger size as they are more visually striking. Book covers however are usually kept at a smaller size due to their image quality.
If no image is available, the items are colour coded, according to their call number or main subject area.

Index Records provide access to a range of resources including: Convict registers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family records.
Any item can be selected to be viewed in detail and from there a link is provided to access the item’s record in the library’s catalogue, One Search.

The colour codification of the dewey decimal system was originally designed by Chris Gaul for the UTS Library and has been adapted for the SLQ.
Technology
The front-end visualisation of SLQ Unstacked is an HTML5 application using several open source javascript libraries Freewall, Greensock GSAP, Moment.js, jQuery.
